Denton Fire Station No. 7
Denton, Texas
The highly insulated, energy-efficient building uses 35 percent
less energy than a conventional building, through geothermal heat
pumps and high-efficiency lighting. Water usage at the station is
also dramatically reduced. Landscape irrigation is supplied entirely
by rainwater runoff from the roof and collected in four 5,400 gallon
cisterns. Additionally, low-flow and high-efficiency plumbing
fixtures reduce domestic water use by more than 50 percent.
A 15,000 square-foot 4-bay Fire Station for Southwest Denton,
this design includes housing for up to 12, office space, and a
community/training room. The station is the City of Denton's first
"green" building, and will serve as an environmental model and
prototype for future fire stations. Fire Station 7 received Gold
Certification under the LEED Green Building Rating System. It is the
first fire station in the State of Texas to receive this honor and
only the second in the nation.
