Southmont Baptist Church
Denton, Texas
Kirkpatric Architecture Studio provided long range site
development services, master planning, and architectural design
services for Southmont Baptist Church. Built in two phases, this
design provided necessary worship and educational space to establish
the church's presence in Denton. In 1980, Kirkpatrick Architecture
Studio designed the Fellowship Hall, which included classrooms and
offices. Then in 1989, the Worship Center was completed, which
included preschool classrooms, a nursery and sanctuary that
Kirkpatrick Architecture Studio designed to blend with the existing
Fellowship Hall. The sanctuary seats a congregation of 750 and
minimizes the distance from pulpit to most distant pew with
appropriate floor space to provide good lines of sight. Particular
attention was given to interior surfaces and planes in order to best
control acoustics. Received the Fort Worth Chapter AIA Design Award,
1981.
