Lubbock City Bank Auditorium

Lubbock City Bank Auditorium
Lubbock, Texas

Kirkpatrick Architecture Studio is currently performing the renovation and additions to the historic Lubbock City Bank Auditorium located near the Texas Tech University campus. The auditorium is part of a larger entertainment complex, comprised of the auditorium itself and the adjoining coliseum. The updates, which are being performed solely on the auditorium, are the first major changes the facility has seen since it was designed and built in the mid-1950s. The auditorium has hosted a variety of acts over the years, which it continues to do today, and some of the acts include: Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Donnie & Marie, David Copperfield, Bill Cosby, George Lopez, and Allison Krauss. It also brings Broadway to Lubbock with shows such as Cats, Miss Saigon, Mamma Mia, and the Wizard of Oz. When the renovations are complete in 2011, the auditorium will have an audience capacity of approximately 2,500.

Updates to the infrastructure, as well as the lobby, seating and restrooms will enhance the patron experience while adding more than 15,000 square feet to the auditorium. Changes to the outside include a zinc-clad facade, which will make the exterior of the auditorium more resistant to the intense summer heat, wind, snowfall and other weather events common to Lubbock. Kirkpatrick Architecture Studio has partnered with Westlake Reed Leskosky, an architecture firm specializing in cultural and performing arts facilities.

The apparatus bays and mezzanine were designed to accommodate training elements such as ladder drills and confined space rescue. Also, concrete pavers and anchors were provided on the roof to allow for rope rescue training. The new addition will complement the existing station so that upon completion, the addition will blend seamlessly with the original building.
