KAS’s ground-up design for the international pasta producer accommodated $2 million in state-of-the-art manufacturing amenities to enhance employee safety and efficiency.

Mexico’s largest pasta manufacturer, and one of the world’s top producers, La Moderna, opened a new $50-million headquarters and production facility in North Texas. The 150,000-square-foot production, manufacturing, and distribution facility marks the company’s first physical U.S. property and the beginning of expanding its U.S. presence. The project sits on 16.5 acres, is capable of producing nearly 4,000 tons of pasta per month, and is responsible for creating 100 direct and 300 indirect new jobs. “We are proud to not only have built La Moderna’s first facility in the United States, but also to have created one of the most high-tech and self-sufficient factories in the history of food manufacturing,” says Luis Miguel Monroy, La Moderna’s Chairman of the Board.

KAS’s architectural design for this massive production site incorporated the following building systems:

  • Cutting-edge technology including ergonomic palletizing workstations, voice-directed systems, temperature-controlled storage, and radio frequency scanning (RFS)
  • Robotic warehouse automation
  • Microbiology, chemistry, research and development, pathogen, food safety, and product analysis labs
  • Sustainable design elements such as low-profile raised flooring, 100% high-efficiency LED lighting, LED-powered digital displays, daylight-optimized building footprint, high-performance glazing systems, and a rainwater recovery system
